CAT SHELBY
CAT SHELBY took her first fused glass class in 2004 and was immediately smiling all
the time. She was home. Initially, she worked only in larger pieces but kept moving
towards jewelry, something she hadn’t done in 30 years. Like the larger pieces, she
likes to create little stories in her jewelry by working extensively with small bits and
pieces along with pre-fused design elements to add texture and depth. Much of her
inspiration is drawn from nature’s palette of colors and amazing textures observed
through years of travel. She has taken several classes at Eugene Glass School including
foil and leaf work with Richard LaLonde and Wendy Hoffman’s Art Clay Silver
series. As a true Oregon native, she grew up in Medford before heading to Eugene
to attend the University of Oregon. Her studio, Cat’s Eye Glass Art, is in Corvallis, Oregon,
where she now lives. Currently, she is exhibiting and selling in a gallery in Ajijic,
Mexico, as well as several shops in the Northwest and California. Having retired from
a career in healthcare, she feels fortunate to be able to express her artistic passion in
fused glass and her dogs are quite happy that she’s home all of the time now.
