Sunshine Kesey

Born on the west coast in the 1960s, Sunshine was raised in a very artistic and experimental environment. She was always encouraged to make art by her mother Carolyn and her step-father Jerry Garcia. Following the footsteps of her father Ken Kesey, Sunshine went to the University of Oregon, where she studied art and creative writing. After receiving her degree, her friend/glass artist Chris Hawthorne, needed a new assistant and Sunshine jumped at the chance to join his team. For the next two years, Sunshine learned how to handle and blow glass while on the job. By 1998, the desire to blow more glass inspired her and two other assistants to build their own studio together - the Greenlight Hot Glass studio in Port Orford, Oregon. Sunshine has developed an unusual style of paperweights she calls Sunstones. These flattened pieces have a vibrant undersea motif which lights up in the sun. Sunshine also enjoys blowing large, vibrantly colored vessels and bowls and sculpting free-hand. Her dream is to create glass sculpture for the outdoors and bring art into nature.
