Mary Hornig
Mary Hornig brings a variety of skills and interests to her pursuit of creating and teaching art,
particularly kiln worked "warm" glass. Proper kiln work requires an understanding of technical
requirements and considerations. With degrees in civil engineering and extensive work experience,
she is familiar with application of technical requirements and the importance of good work
procedures. Life long fascination and observation of the natural world, as well as a sense of
humor are obvious in her work and classes. She has taught many things to many kinds of people and
prides herself on tailoring presentations to the student. Mary is also a proficient metal and
wood worker and has a product line of display stands. She is currently writing a beginning fusing
book and is president of the Eugene Chapter of the Oregon Glass Guild. Since changing careers
from engineer to artist in 1997, and starting her company Oregon Odyssey Artworks, she has brought
sufficient energy and talent to the field collected from England to across the United States.
